This workshop is specifically designed for therapists involved in the evaluation and treatment of wounds to the extremities and torso. Learn current, clinically useful information for the assessment and treatment of acute and chronic wounds, including the use of appropriate dressings, documentation, and use of ultrasound to facilitate healing.

Unique presentation format is comprised of 3 separate programs. Select programs based on the skills you need to develop.

Ultrasound: Benefits for Wound Care (4 contact hours) provides update on research and overview for use of ultrasound in wound care.

Basics of Wound Care (12 contact hours) lays the groundwork for understanding wound healing.

Sharp Debridement (4 contact hours) is a hands-on skill building workshop with debridement lab. This course can be taken only in conjunction with Basics of Wound Care.

Completion of this workshop does not affect the participants' legal rights to apply modalities and/or perform sharp debridement. They are governed by state law.

Course Objectives:

Ultrasound: Benefits for Wound Healing 4 contact hrs

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • understand how ultrasound can facilitate wound healing.
  • determine when it is appropriate and inappropriate to apply ultrsound for wound healing
  • determine the various frequencies, intensities, and length of treatment, and appropriate applications when using ultrasound for wound healing

Basics of Wound Care 12 contact hours

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • identify the physiological phases of wound healing and implications for treatment.
  • use correct nomenclature to classify wounds by depth, tissue type and phase of healing.
  • identify common factors and conditions that complicate wound healing.
  • understand the role of nutrition in wound healing
  • Perform a wound eval: evaluate, objectify, and appropriately document wound data, intervention, goals, and management.
  • identify wound care products and dressings, effectively choose and appropriately apply products/dressings for a specific wound.
  • understand and know when to use different types of debridement tools for wound healing

Sharp Debridement Lab 4 contact hrs

At the end of this course, participants will:

  • develop the skills to perform sharp debridement initially with supervision and ultimately independently
